Free coffee during University furlough day

To help ease the pain of the University faculty and staff members on their first mandatory unpaid day, Red Eye Coffee, will be hosting “Furlough Freebie” Friday.

Gregg Carey, owner of Red Eye Coffee, decided to hold the event because he wanted to do something for the University’s faculty and staff.

For the first time ever in Athens, on Halloween night there will be a parade through downtown to commemorate the night and celebrate the spirit of the wildly beloved children’s book “Where the Wild Things Are.”

The Wild Rumpus has been several years in the making for local musician Timi Conley.

Though bar windows lining downtown promise drink specials and costume contests, there is more to Halloween in Athens than the usual weekend bar crawl.

Tennis’ Garrapiz gets bid to ITA National Indoors

Georgia junior Javier Garrapiz has been selected as an at-large recipient for the ITA National Indoor Tournament at Yale University Nov. 5-8. The 32-player singles draw includes the 12 ITA regional champions, the four semifinalists from the All-American Championships, one super bowl champion, two host wildcards, one ITA wild card and 12 at-large bids.

SEC to enforce suspensions, fines for bad-mouthing refs

In a unanimous vote of the Southeastern Conference’s Athletic Directors and with the full support of the Conference’s 12 Presidents and Chancellors, all violations of SEC Bylaw 10.5.4 will be enforced by suspensions and fines, effective immediately.

The length of the suspension and the amount of the fine will be at the discretion of the Commissioner.

SEC coaches pick Lady Dogs fourth

League coaches picked the Georgia Lady Bulldogs to finish fourth in the SEC during the 2009-10 season and also voted three Lady Dogs All-SEC in pre-season balloting released by the conference office. The 12 SEC coaches pegged Georgia to finish behind Tennessee, LSU and Mississippi State.

Diamond Dog infielder Chance Veazey injured in accident

Chance Veazey, a freshman infielder on the Georgia baseball team, was injured in a motor vehicle accident shortly after leaving the Miller Learning Center Wednesday night. According to Athens-Clarke County Police, at 10:40 p.m. Veazey was riding a 2009 Yamaha Vizio southbound on Lumpkin Street.

In a season amiss, Florida game about legacy

Three wins in 19 games.

Whatever the reasons, Florida has decimated the rivalry against Georgia. The Bulldogs have lost every way imaginable, suffering heartbreaking close defeats and embarrassing blowouts.

But in those three wins, legacies were defined.
