FUMBLE-ROO-SKI!: Fumbles ground Bulldogs offense
Fumbles have plagued Georgia this season.
Tailbacks Richard Samuel, Caleb King and Carlton Thomas have each fumbled once this season, with quarterback Joe Cox losing two more en route to eight total lost fumbles in 2009.
But it’s not something the Bulldogs aren’t working on.
“We focus on it with some of the ball security drills that we do, and just making sure throughout practice there’s a constant focus on it,” said running backs coach Bryan McClendon. “We’re so fortunate that it hasn’t gotten us beat before, or beat since the first game.”
Added Samuel: “We work really hard,” Samuel said. “That’s the main focus that we keep in mind in practice, to secure the ball. You can’t do anything without the ball.”
When it comes to fumbles, having a short memory is key, and not being hesitant is crucial.
“They don’t get frustrated,” fullback Fred Munzenmaier said of Georgia’s tailbacks. “They hit it full speed and I really don’t feel like it’s affected their confidence at all. They run just as hard as they can every time they get the ball.”
