SPORTS NOTEBOOK: Big names such as Herschel Walker and Larry Munson at LSU game
Some of the biggest names in Georgia Bulldog annals will be on hand before the Georgia vs. LSU game Saturday, signing autographs at the UGA Bookstore across from Sanford Stadium.
Herchel Walker and Larry Munson will be at the bookstore from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. signing copies of their books.
Former coach and Athletic Director Vince Dooley will be on hand from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and will be joined by legendary quarterback Fran Tarkenton and author Jim Bruton who will all be signing copies of their books.
One of the greatest kickers in college history, Kevin Butler, will be at the bookstore with former Georgia quarterback great, David Greene, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Both Butler and Greene will be signing memorabilia.
Cross country teams head to Irish country
The men’s and women’s cross country teams will face a tough challenge today as they head on the road for the first time this season.
Both squads will head to South Bend, Ind. to take on the Notre Dame Invitational, in a race that will feature five of the top 13 in the nation on the women’s side and two top-25 teams on the men’s.
The Georgia men’s and women’s teams won their first competitions of the season, though both were held at Georgia’s newly designed course in Bishop, Ga.
Equestrian set to hit the road for the first time
The defending national champion Georgia Equestrian squad will hit the road for the first time this season as it travels to UT-Martin for a duel meet at 2 p.m. today.
The Georgia riders will face a Skyhawk team that have only been in existence for three years. The Bulldogs easily defeated UT-Martin last season, winning by a score of 16-3.
Diamond Dogs set to start fall “World Series”
The annual Dogs-Pups series will begin Sunday at 2 p.m. at Foley Field, and admission is free to all who attend.
The series is held every year and features the upperclassmen versus the freshmen, and is played as a best four-of-seven series, much like that of Major League Baseball’s World Series. The series will wrap up on Oct. 10 assuming class schedules and other events do not interfere with the schedule.
