Women’s tennis doubles teams advances
Georgia’s doubles team of Cameron Ellis and Naoko Ueshima advanced to the second round of pre-qualifying for the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
The Ellis/Ueshima team posted an 8-5 win over Bhargava/Walters (Pepperdine). Up next, they will face the Dartmouth team of Scott/Winingham. The Bulldog duo needs to win two matches Sunday to advance to the qualifying event Oct. 6-7 in Pacific Palisades, California. This is their first event this season after going 28-14 last year.
The news was not as good in singles where Ellis and Ueshima fell in the first round.
Ellis, ranked No. 108 nationally, fell to 90th-ranked Kristina Nedletcheva (UNLV) 6-2,7-5. Courtney Byron (UC-Irvine) defeated Ueshima 6-3,6-3.
Bulldog senior Yvette Hyndman and sophomore Nadja Gilchrist have already earned a spot in the qualifying draw based on their preseason ranking. Hyndman is ranked No. 41 while Gilchrist checks in at No. 43.
