Dogs volleyball downs Ole Miss

The glass may still be half-empty for Georgia volleyball.
Georgia (11-5, 2-3 SEC) defeated Ole Miss 3-1 on Sunday at the Ramsey Student Center to ensure a weekend split to finish off a four-match home stand. The Bulldogs defeated the Rebels (6-10, 0-6 SEC) by set scores of 25-14, 25-27, 25-18 and 25-18.
The victory came on the heels of a 3-0 loss Friday night to Arkansas, which head coach Joel McCartney described as “incredibly disappointing”.
“We faced two very similar and two very good teams this weekend,” McCartney told Georgia Sports Communications. “We are going to see a different Mississippi team when we head to their place, I’m sure of that. They are a quality team, so this was a good win for us today.”
Junior outside hitter Erika Clark led the way for Georgia on the weekend, tallying a total of 22 kills and 26 digs, including her fifth double-double on the season against Ole Miss.
Redshirt freshman Brianna Bahr added 18 kills in the two matches and sophomore libero Carla Tietz notched 27 digs.
“The difference I thought that we made [Sunday] was that we really centered our focus on a lot of goals,” McCartney said. “We just didn’t play very passionately Friday night. today, we decided to make sure we made a conscious effort to think about manageable goals that were quantifiable.”
By splitting the weekend matches, the Bulldogs missed a good opportunity to earn a winning conference record before heading back on the road.
Now, Georgia faces a more daunting task as they head out to take on two of the Southeastern Conference’s best teams – Tennessee and Kentucky.
“I’m excited because Kentucky is a ranked team and Tennessee is getting votes, and I think by the end of the year Tennessee will at least be a team that deserves to be in the top 25,” McCartney said. “Kentucky is the only SEC team that nobody in our locker room has beaten . so we are going to go up there with the mind set that we are going to pick a couple of teams off.”
