Student gets role in hit new show
Wendell Scott is a student actor shooting for the stars and finding that they are not quite so far out of reach.
Already a star in a slew of theater performances, the broadcast news major from Stone Mountain recently landed a role in the CW television show “The Vampire Diaries.”
“It all started in the ninth grade when I was Prince Christopher in Roger and Hammerstein’s ‘Cinderella,’” he said.
Scott, picked up by the J. Pervis Talent Agency, has starred in plays – including University productions – appeared on Cartoon Network, and he is also a musician.
“I love music. It’s three and a half minutes in your own little world, saying what you really feel,” he said. “It’s catharsis.”
Being in school in Athens while looking for acting career opportunities is also difficult, Scott said. He said there are fewer roles here compared to Atlanta. Scott also works as a resident assistant in O-House. But his busy schedule rarely deters him from acting, he said.
“I really enjoy people,” he said. “The satisfaction of a laugh, a sniffle, I can step out of who I am. A life I’ll maybe never be able to take on again.”
