Sophomore Chelsey Gullickson finished second at the Riveria/ITA All-American tournament.

After fighting her way into the finals of the Riveria/ITA All-American Championship in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Sunday, Chelsey Gullickson of the Georgia women’s tennis team fell to Georgia Tech’s eighth-ranked Irina Falconi in the finals 6-2, 6-1.

Before competing against Falconi in the finals, Gullickson won in three sets in her match Thursday and won in straight sets Friday after persevering through two tiebreakers in both of those sets. The sophomore then faced California’s Jana Juricova in semi-final play and downed the fourth-ranked player in two sets.

It was the second time Gullickson and Falconi met in a collegiate match, and the first time either player advanced to a grand slam singles final.

In the final day of the Bulldog Scramble Sunday, two members of the Georgia men’s tennis team came out on top.

Senior Christian Vitulli took out Clemson’s Wesley Moran 6-1, 6-3 as freshman Will Oliver came away with his first collegiate win after defeating Clemson’s Moritz Dettinger 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

Georgia will take the court in Athens Oct. 22-25 for the ITA Regionals.
