REAL TALK with RENNIE CURRAN
Rennie Curran has never been shy about saying what’s on his mind.
While the Bulldogs’ season is seemingly headed the wrong way, First & Goal caught up with Georgia’s junior linebacker (who, by the way, is also the SEC’s leading tackler) this week.
We got the skinny on players’ attitudes, new goals and the rest of the 2009 season.
ON HOW TO GET BETTER:
We all want to win, we’re all fighting hard, we’re all playing our hearts out every single game. But at the same time we’ve got to focus on playing smarter. And that starts with preparation. Coach Martinez can coach his heart out, but it’s up to us to stay in that film room for an extra 30 minutes or whatever it may take.”
ON GEORGIA’S SEC STATUS:
It definitely is weird, just because of how hard we work. Everybody goes out every single play and tries to play their hearts out, and we haven’t gotten the results that we wanted. We’re not where we want to be right now. But that doesn’t mean that thing can’t change, that we should give up in any way. We’re going to continue to fight hard. We put in a lot of work this offseason and we still believe in each other and believe in our coaches and what we’re doing, what we’re trying to do.
ON WHERE TO GO FROM HERE:
We definitely have to reevaluate where we’re headed as a team. I think everybody has to look in the mirror and see how they can get better. We’ve got to see what’s wrong individually. One thing you have to do is evaluate yourself, what you’re doing, what you’ve been doing wrong. You really just have to learn from your mistakes to get better.
ON HIS ROLE AS A LEADER:
If I want my team better, it starts with me. It starts with my commitment and how much time I put in. We have so much going on with school, our families but at the same time this is what we came to this school for, to be great football players, to get a degree and make a great living for ourselves.
ON STAYING FOCUSED:
At times like these you have to remind the guys why we came here . we have to remember how much work we put in this offseason and how much work that has gone into this whole entire season. What we represent, our tradition, all those things come into play.
