Geno Atkins honored following eight-tackle performance

Georgia’s Geno Atkins was named SEC defensive lineman of the week on Monday.
The senior defensive tackle had eight tackles, one for a loss, in the win against Vanderbilt Saturday.
Atkins, who won the award once in 2007, has 17 tackles on the year, and a team high 17 quarterback pressures.
Atkins joins fellow Georgia lineman Justin Houston to win the honor this season.
Individual leaders for the Dogs
At the midpoint of the season, Georgia has a few statistical standouts.
Sophomore receiver A.J. Green leads the conference in receptions and yards per game. Green has 41 catches for 682 yards and six touchdowns.
Bulldogs’ linebacker Rennie Curran is the SEC’s leading tackler, with 72 takedowns at an average of 10 a game. Curran, a sophomore, is on pace to record 132 tackles on the season.
Cornerback Brandon Boykin leads the conference with his 600 kickoff return yards. Boykin is averaging 27 yards a return, and has two for touchdowns, both 100-yarders. Boykin is also tied for the team lead with two interceptions.
Punter Drew Butler continues to honor his pedigree, leading the SEC in punt average. Butler’s 49 yards per punt is six yards ahead of his nearest competitor.
Quarterback Joe Cox is second in the SEC in passing yards a game (225), trailing Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett.
