Georgia's Erika Clark led the Bulldogs Wednesday with her ninth double-double of the season with 17 kills and 17 digs.

The Georgia volleyball team will hit the road on a positive note following a five-set win over Auburn Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs (14-9, 5-7 SEC) won their fourth consecutive match with a solid effort on both ends of the court as they held Auburn (14-9, 6-6 SEC) to a .192 overall team hitting percentage.

“That was such a battle and we really thought that it was going to be,” head coach Joel McCartney said. “I’m really proud of the girls and it was a hard-fought battle and a great win for Georgia tonight.”

After a back-and-forth start to the first set, the Bulldogs found themselves in a 16-10 hole thanks to steady offensive pressure from the Tigers who had five players tally more than one kill.

Unfortunately for Georgia, a solution was not discovered as Auburn would end up taking the match’s first set by a score of 25-18.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 17-10 lead of its of its own in the second set and managed to step up the defensive pressure as they held Auburn to a meager .061 team hitting percentage and recorded six team blocks.

The Tigers would regain some temporary momentum by going on a 6-3 run to close the gap to just four points before ultimately falling by a score of 25-17 as the teams headed to halftime tied at one set apiece.

In a third set that yielded 13 tie scores and four lead changes, the Bulldogs and Tigers were knotted up at 22 before Auburn pulled away to take the set by a final of 25-22.

In the fourth set, with their backs against the wall, the Bulldogs pulled out the victory in dominating fashion as they pulled away from the Tigers by a set score of 25-18 thanks to a .400 team hitting percentage and five kills from redshirt freshman outside hitter Briana Bahr.

The Bulldogs won the fifth and decisive set by a score of 15-10 to improve their record against the SEC western division to 5-3 so far this season.

Georgia will now head out on the road to take on the 20th-ranked LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge, La., and will be looking to avenge a sweep at the hands of the Bayou Bengals earlier this year.

“Winning this match, we sleep a little bit better, we feel a little bit more confident,” McCartney said.
