JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The only difference between Georgia’s meeting with Florida in 2008 and Saturday’s version was the Bulldogs’ attire.

Georgia came out for its matchup with the top-ranked Gators in black pants and black helmets Saturday in Jacksonville, but the end result was all to familiar – a 41-17 Florida romp.

The Bulldogs are now 4-4 for the first time during the Mark Richt era, and it was poor execution and a lack of discipline that cursed them this time.

“We were getting yards, throwing lanes were there, we’d be moving, and then something bad would happen,” said quarterback Joe Cox. “It just happened way too many times.”

Unlike last season, however, Georgia was in the game at one point. They were down only 17-10 in the waning minutes of the first half. But Florida quarterback Tim Tebow made it 24-10 at the half with a record-breaking touchdown run, and a Cox interception on the first possession of the third quarter set the pace for another Florida rout.

Cox threw three interceptions Saturday, giving him 12 on the season.

The Gators have now put up a round 100 points on Georgia in the last two installments of the rivalry.

The Bulldogs committed nine penalties, accounting for 87 Florida yards.

“We knew coming into the game that if we made mistakes, they would capitalize on it,” said defensive end Demarcus Dobbs. “That’s what a good team does, they capitalize on mistakes. We weren’t mistake-free, we had a couple missed opportunities, missed assignments. It turned out in big plays for them, and that was pretty much the turnout of the game . We’re not doing what we need to do.”

Tebow, who broke Herschel Walker’s SEC rushing touchdown record with his 50th in the first half, accounted for two scores on the ground and two more through the air.

The Gators are still undefeated, and the Bulldogs are headed the other way.

“Things don’t always go the way you want in life,” Richt said. “And when they don’t you find out what you’re made of.”
