Soccer’s Lindsay Stein earns district honors
Georgia senior midfielder Lindsay Stein has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Soccer Team, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. She was a named to the third team for district three.
Stein is a participant in the UGA honors program and has been named to the Dean’s List and a Presidential Scholar. The Littleton, Colo., native is also a Ramsey Scholar for being among the top-10 UGA student-athletes ranked by GPA. Stein has been named to the UGA Athletic Director’s Honor Roll each semester at Georgia. She has a 3.91 GPA and is a biological science major.
Stein returned from a season-ending knee injury suffered in 2008 and has played in all 19 games with seven starts this season. She helped lead Georgia to its best 12-game start in school history and has guided the Bulldogs to 14 wins for just the fourth time in program history.
“It is a really big honor to get recognized for my efforts outside of soccer in the classroom,” Stein said. “On this team, you have to spend just as much time, if not more, with academics than you do soccer and it gets really tough sometimes balancing the two. I decided to come to Georgia because it is a top academic school and because of the good pre-veterinary program. The Athletic Association has given me many resources to do well in school and I have learned so much in the last four years here. Being a student-athlete has prepared me for vet school and given me the skills to pursue this career, and I am really excited about what the future holds for me.”
Each district team features 11 student-athletes, and those listed on the first teams advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
Stein and the Bulldogs (14-4-1, 7-4-0 SEC) will open play in the SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Ala., Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern. With a Mississippi State win over Ole Miss on Sunday, Georgia will be the No. 4 seed and will face the Rebels. If Ole Miss beats Mississippi State, Georgia will be the No. 5 seed and will play South Carolina in the first round.
