Deaf Judges hosts party in pajamas
Deaf Judges wants to see you in your underwear – well, sort of.
The local hip-hop band, consisting of Produceman (Judge Fear), Rorshak (Judge Mortis), Louie Larceny (Judge Fear) and DJ/producer DJ Cubenza (Judge Death), is headlining a pajama party at the 40 Watt tonight.
Produceman would like those attending to know they have reason to be just as excited about the pajama party: a chance to win some extra cash. “It’s $50 for the best pajamas,” he said.

Prize money aside, Deaf Judges prides itself on providing a memorable live experience for concertgoers. “Our live shows are high energy,” Produceman said. “We get down! We want our shows to look like it’s just the four of us doing this in a room. We want it to look like we are having so much fun that people can’t resist having fun themselves.”
Crazy stage shows are not something Deaf Judges is unfamiliar with, but Produceman stresses the band has a serious side, too.
“It’s fun to use gimmicks sometimes, but sometimes we just get on stage and rap,” he said.
The band’s name was partially derived from the 2000 comic book “Judge Dread,” but it also carries political overtones.
“It’s kind of a commentary on the justice system and the state of things,” Produceman said. “We definitely have political moments, but I wouldn’t call us a political group.”
According to Produceman, Deaf Judges’ inclusion of political messages is an exercise of the genre the band works in. “The cool thing about rap is that there is a lot of room to move around in,” he said. “You can make a political line, and then the next line you can be on a whole different topic and it can still flow together.”
Deaf Judges has more in mind for the show than just a room full of people in their sleep wear.
“The main thing about this show [is] that we wanted to get local bands and showcase them,” Produceman said.
The group has succeeded in this aim, securing an impressive lineup that includes Gemini Cricket, Puddin’ Tang and Showtime.
