Gunman who spurred alert found dead, woman killed near campus

The search for a man who spurred a UGA Alert Thursday afternoon is over.

The University released an alert and blocked vehicles along Milledge Road after police sought an armed and dangerous suspect at the rear of the University golf course and Whitehall Road.

According to Athens-Clarke County police, the suspect, Michael Wise, 25, shot and killed himself after police stopped his car in Oglethorpe County around 3:30 p.m.

He is accused of killing Kendra Borders, 20, in the parking lot of the Shops of South Athens on South Milledge Avenue. She died of a gunshot wound.
