Former Georgia star John Isner will bring ROCK-n-RACQUETS, an exhibition tennis event featuring Serena Williams, to Athens Dec. 12.

Georgia fans remember John Isner for giving the University’s tennis team four incredible years of play from 2003-07, but on Dec. 12 he will be giving the entire Athens community an event unlike any other.

Beginning at 2:30 p.m., Isner will join tennis stars Serena Williams, Melanie Oudin and Sam Querrey in Stegeman Coliseum for Rock-n-Racquets, a tennis exhibition featuring some of the greatest players in the world with a musical component woven throughout the evening.

“I’ve wanted to bring an event to UGA since I turned pro in 2007,” Isner said in a press release earlier this week. “After I played in Rock-n-Racquets last year I knew it was the event to bring to Athens.”

Isner earned All-American status all four years at the University and, in his senior year, led his team to an undefeated 32-0 record, SEC regular season and tournament titles, and the 2007 NCAA championship.

“It’s great to welcome John Isner back to Athens as he’s gotten to be an elite player on the world stage,” said men’s tennis head coach Manuel Diaz, who coached Isner all four of his college years.

“Rock-n-Racquets will definitely heighten visibility for Georgia tennis and for college tennis nation-wide.”

The evening will include singles matches of Isner against Querrey, the 2009 Olympus U.S. Open Series champion, and world No. 1 Serena Williams versus Melanie Oudin, an 18-year-old pro from Marietta,

Then, Isner and Williams will team up to take on Querrey and Oudin in a star-packed mixed doubles match.

“We have one of [UGA's] own in John Isner, an up-and-coming Georgia talent in Melanie Oudin and world No. 1-ranked Serena Williams,” said Diaz. “That says a lot about what people think the Athens community can support.”

Tickets for Rock-n-Racquets are on sale today at 8 a.m. and a portion of the ticket prices will benefit the University’s General Scholarship Fund.

“I know the Georgia community will pack the Coliseum to create a big-time atmosphere for great music and great tennis,” said Isner.
