Another Big Road Win Over Ranked Opponent: Georgia upset #7 Ga. Tech 30-24 to improve to 33-6 in an opponent’s stadium including 11-3 against ranked opponents in the Mark Richt era which began in 2001. This was the highest ranked team Georgia has defeated on the road since 2006 when the Bulldogs beat #5 Auburn 37-15.

ATLANTA – Georgia’s mission statement was short and to the point.

“We’re taking the state back,” Bulldogs’ linebacker Christian Robinson said via Facebook early on Saturday.

And with a 30-24 upset over Georgia Tech Saturday night, the Bulldogs have retaken control of the instate rivalry they’ve so thoroughly dominated this decade.
Georgia’s mission statement was short and to the point.

Richt had confidence in Walsh, defense

ATLANTA – With just over three minutes left to play at Bobby Dodd Stadium Saturday, Georgia coach Mark Richt gave a two-fold vote of confidence – he went for the field goal. With his Bulldogs up 30-24, it would be a 55-yard attempt for kicker Blair Walsh. If he made it, it would make it a two-score lead for Georgia.

Lady Bulldogs win Lady Eagle Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Jasmine James scored 24 points to lead the No. 14-ranked Georgia Lady Bulldogs (6-0) to an 84-55 victory over Southern Miss (3-3) in the championship game of the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic here on Saturday night. Ashley Houts was tabbed the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after scoring 17 points, dishing out four assists and grabbing six steals.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Georgia Lady Bulldogs used quick 8-0 runs to begin the first and second halves en route to a 77-58 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the opening round of the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic on Friday night. Late 3-pointers from Ricky McPhee and Dustin Ware helped the Georgia men’s basketball team top Jacksonville State 67-64 Friday night at Stegeman Coliseum. “I was disappointed with our team’s approach when we came to the gym today, but fortunately we have matured in the last couple of weeks and were able to battle back, play from behind, and make some plays to come back and win the game,” said Georgia head coach Mark Fox.

Kathleen Gates named to SEC volleyball community service team

Georgia student-athlete Kathleen Gates has been named to the 2009 Southeastern Conference Volleyball Community Service Team according to an announcement made by the league. The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The community service team looks to highlight athletes from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.

Bulldogs make final preparations for Tech

Georgia head football coach Mark Richt put his team through a one hour, 35 minute Thanksgiving morning workout Thursday as preparations continued for Saturday’s annual game with Georgia Tech in Atlanta. “We had great weather and were able to conduct our normal practice for a Thursday,” said Richt.

Russ, Uga VII’s half brother, takes mascot roll for Tech

Russ, the five-year old half brother of Uga VII, will serve as the Georgia Bulldogs’ mascot for the game against Georgia Tech on Saturday in Atlanta. Russ may also serve as the mascot in Georgia’s bowl game but will not be next in the line of permanent Uga mascots.
