Women’s golf takes 14th on home course in Classic
Sophomore Marta Silva Zamora led the Georgia women’s golf team to a 14th place finish in the Liz Murphy Classic held in Athens over the weekend.
Zamora shot a final round score of 2-over 74 and finished in sixth place individually overall, as the Lady Bulldogs tallied a final-round score of 302 Sunday.
Though Georgia improved its scores with each round of play, the team never managed to rise in the rankings, as No. 4 Duke took home the tournament trophy, finishing with a score of 889.
Five Gym Dogs named to All-SEC squads
Despite an up-and-down regular season where Georgia went 6-5, five Gym Dogs were named to All-SEC teams.
Senior Courtney McCool, junior Hilary Mauro and sophomore Kat Ding were named to the First Team All-SEC, and seniors Grace Taylor and Marcia Newby grabbed Second Team All-SEC honors.
At the SEC meet that saw Georgia take a third place finish, the Gym Dogs were still able to bring home the bars title (Ding), the floor title (McCool) and a second-place finish in the race for the balance beam title (Taylor).
Georgia tied with Florida with the most gymnastics named to All-SEC Teams with five each.
Men’s swimming and diving team takes eighth
For the tenth time under head coach Jack Bauerle, the Georgia men’s swimming and diving team finished in the top-10 in the NCAA Championships.
Despite Mark Dylla’s disqualifying in the 200-yard breast stroke due to a one-hand touch on the wall — when a two-hand touch is required when turning — the Bulldogs were still able to rack up 143 points on the weekend.
Dylla’s disqualification came after the junior entered the championships as the No. 1 seed and with the nation’s fastest time in the event.
The 2009 champion in the 1,650-yard freestyle — Troy Prinsloo — finished in seventh place as teammate Martin Grodzki came in second place and Andrew Gemmell rounded out the event for the Bulldogs in 12th.

In the final round of play, junior Russell Henley shot a 5-under 67, as the Bulldogs posted a final round score of 8-under 280.
On the weekend, the Bulldogs finished at 8-over at 879. Individually, English tied for fourth place at even-par 216 for the whole weekend. Henley squeezed in a tenth place finish at 2-over 218, as junior Rob Bennett grabbed 15th place, finishing at 4-over 220
