6 things you need to know — AARON MURRAY
Georgia’s star quarterback tackles sweaty palms, social media and second chances. And the girl he has his eye on.
1. Catching on a little late …
“I didn’t know much at all about UGA. Honestly, my first time ever watching a game was the UGA vs. Hawaii game in the Sugar Bowl. I was actually rooting for Hawaii because I had met Colt Brennan and I liked him a lot. First time ever watching Georgia football and they whooped their tail. I was like, ‘Man, Georgia’s pretty good.’ Then I made a visit or two here and there, came to a couple of camps and fell in love with it right away. But until probably my junior year, I didn’t really know much about Georgia.”
2. Murray is crushing on …
“[U.S. Women’s soccer player] Alex Morgan. I follow her on Twitter for goodness sakes. I tried to Tweet her a couple times but she doesn’t Tweet me back. It makes me really upset. I like a nice athletic girl. It’s all about the breeding; it’s all about the kids.”
3. Murray to Charles for the state title …
“Throwing [Georgia tight end Orson Charles] a 70-yard touchdown pass in my [high school] state championship game. I had to fit a ball in there against [University of Southern California safety] Jawanza Starling. He made a great catch and turned up field and ran 70 yards for a touchdown. It put us up 21-nothing and we ended up just killing the team after that. So that definitely stands out as one of my favorite plays of my career.”
4. We all have our weird habits …
“I have a lot of wrist bands. I get sweaty hands and I really don’t like my hands to be sweaty so I probably go through four or five sets of wrist bands every game. I’ll go one for pre-practice, another for second pre-practice, one for the first half, two for the second half and maybe more thrown in here or there.”
5. And the Sorting Hat would put Murray in …
“Gryffindor for sure. We’ve talked about this multiple times with a bunch of the guys. We’ve named who would be in which one. I was definitely voted to be in Gryffindor. I think my roommate Arthur [Lynch] would get Slytherin. He’s a wild man; we love it. He’s a great roommate but we joked around saying he would be that or Hufflepuff.”
6. If I could turn back time …
“If I could change one play it would probably be the interception in overtime against Florida last year. If I could go back and change that, that would be really fine with me. It stunk to be that close. To come back from losing in the first half to having a chance to win the game. It’s definitely a crushing blow, but we’ll make up for it this year.”
