A new dance craze is sweeping the Earth – for women only.

And now, ladies in Athens can participate.
A “Dance Dance Party Party” class is offered once a week at Whole: Mind. Body. Art., for women eager to exercise in an entertaining way.
Caitlyn Hardy, the primary organizer of “Dance Dance Party Party,” encourages women to attend a class and feel what it’s like to truly let loose.
“It’s a woman’s only free-style dance session,” she said. “There are no instructors and no choreographed movement. It’s a free-for-all where you can dance as crazy as you want to for an hour. There are only three rules: No booze. No boys. No judgment.”
Intended to take you back to your sleepover days, attendees at DDPP are allowed to provide music from their own playlists – a trend started by founders Glennis McMurray and Marcy Girt.
“It’s an international thing that started in Chicago, and chapters just kept popping up across other states,” Hardy said. “So we follow the national rules. It started because [McMurray and Girt] felt like they were being objectified in night clubs and felt self-conscious in other workout classes. This is a space free of inhibitions where you can feel comfortable and let loose.”
The experience offered by DDPP classes is decidedly different; and it’s atmosphere is infectious.
“It really is an interesting thing,” she said. “The first time I did it [in Rhode Island], I felt like ‘This is kind of strange.’ But once all the women start dancing and getting into their own little worlds, everyone starts flailing their arms and it’s really freeing. You just have to join in.”
Hardy advises being open to the experience, at least once in life.
“Give it a try,” she said. “It’s a really good workout – everyone’s sweaty and drained by the end, but it’s refreshing. You definitely feel the burn for the next few days. The fact that it’s a judgment-free zone is a lot of fun.”
