Student charged in connection to campus graffiti (w/documents)

A University student has been charged with six counts of criminal trespass after more than 10 instances of graffiti were reported to University police last month.

The student, former Red & Black photographer Nehemie Lucien, 22, could face felony charges for two instances where the damage exceeded $500, according to police reports and University Police Lt. Eric Dellinger.

The graffiti appeared across campus, including around the Tate Plaza, Miller Learning Center, near the Journalism building and on the Lamar Dodd School of Art.

Each instance appeared to be made using a stencil which read, “You’re a whore,” according to the documents.

Though investigators have yet to finalized their reports, Dellinger said they spent a considerable amount of time on the case before it appears Nehemie identified herself to a University official. That official then contacted the police.

Nehemie told The Red & Black she didn’t wish to comment on the case.

This is the second student to be arrested on multiple graffiti charges this year.

Fredrick Dylan Cantrell was eventually charged with 16 different counts, including four felonies, in relation to a string of graffiti incidents which began showing up around campus in March.

He is accused of spray painting phrases such as “Frodo Lives,” “Frodo Lived” and “Sam Wise” on University property, causing damage estimated around $4,500, according to a previous Red & Black report.
