Sports Notebook: Gymnast wins SEC honor, volleyball adds recruit
Georgia gymnast Chelsea Davis has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the league office.
Davis made her Georgia debut by helping the ninth-ranked Gym Dogs post a 196.525 in the win over No. 20 Denver on Friday. The Austin, Texas, native led off on vault and bars and scored a pair of 9.8s. Both scores counted towards the team total, and the 9.8 on bars was tied for the third highest bars score of the meet.
Davis and the Gym Dogs will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on No. 2 Alabama Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Kaylee Kehoe joins volleyball team
Kaylee Kehoe has joined the Georgia volleyball program according to an announcement made by head coach Lizzy Stemke on Wednesday.
Kehoe, a 5-9 setter from Fayetteville, Ga., joins the Bulldogs after playing her freshman season at Middle Tennessee State University.
“Kaylee will bring not only depth to our setter position but a fire and passion to this program,” Stemke said. “Kaylee is an in-state kid whose heart lies in Georgia, and she will be a great role model on and off the court.”
Kehoe appeared in 10 matches with three starts in her first collegiate season providing the Blue Raiders with 114 assists and 23 digs.
Prior to her stint with MTSU, Kehoe lettered all four seasons at Whitewater High School where she earned All-State, First Team All-Region and team Most Valuable Player honors as both a junior and a senior. Kehoe led the Wildcats to the 2009 Class 4A state title as a junior.
Kehoe has also been part of the USA Volleyball system earning invitations to a number of camps including the 2009 Holiday Camp at the Olympic Training Facility in Colorado Springs, Colo., and being selected setter for the USA Volleyball GYA2 Team playing in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 2009.
Additionally, Kehoe played with the A5 Volleyball Club in 2011, which ranked in the Top 15 in the country, and she has also played club volleyball for TCA and Tsunami.
