Dog Days are back
Sometimes you have to go back to your roots.
And that’s exactly what we’re doing with our Dog Days blog.
You will never see another press release published on this section of the site.
That’s a promise.
What you’ll see instead is what the blog was intended for when former staff writer Zach Dillard wrote this manifesto last year.
As Dillard wrote then, “This will not be a blog spitting out facts and information ad nauseum each and every day. This will not be a place that simply reproduces what our sports section produces.”
That could not be more true.
What Dog Days will showcase are the more analytical sides of the sports we cover, as well as some of the quirky things about Georgia athletes that have nothing to do with what they do on the field.
But as much as the blog is going back to its roots that Dillard planted, it is also being revamped.
Some of my colleagues from other sections at The Red & Black have been way ahead of sports in this department, but one thing Dog Days will begin doing is weekly podcasts with a rotating basis of guests.
One week, we’ll be joined by our sports brethren from the student radio station, WUOG.
The next, former Red & Black sports writers who are still active in sports journalism — many who are quite recognizable to Bulldogs’ fans — will weigh in with their thoughts on not only Georgia athletics, but other hot topics in the sports world.
But wait, there’s more!
(Pardon the informercial reference, folks.)
Along with the weekly podcasts, I’ll be sitting down every week to do video blogs with our various beat writers as they give insight about their respective sports in front of the camera.
Needless to say, the sports staff is excited to get Dog Days back up and running.
We hope everyone comes along for the ride.
