New associate chief information officer to coordinate information system implementation

The University has named a new associate chief information officer and project coordinator of the new information system.

Larry Malota, who previously served as the associate director for enterprise information systems at Texas A&M, will officially begin his work on Feb. 1, according to a University press release.

“Throughout his career at Texas A&M University, Larry has consistently proven himself to be one of the most trusted leaders in information technology,” Timothy Chester, chief information officer, said in the release.

Malota will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of Banner, the new information system, as well as keeping up with DegreeWorks.

The release said once Banner is implemented, which could be as late as 2014, Malota will oversee EITS teams.

The new associate chief information officer earned his bachelor’s degree in 1977 and master’s degree in 1986 both from Texas A&M.
