Students arrested after play fighting in bushes
Two University students were found “wrestling” in bushes in North Campus on Saturday morning.
Marvin Barge, 20, was being dragged by his foot out of the bushes by Silas Deluca, 21, when the officers approached them, according to the University police report.
Barge was eventually charged with possession of fake ID, underage possession of alcohol and providing false name and date of birth.
Deluca was charged with providing false name and date of birth.
The officers observed that both students smelled of alcohol and instructed them to produce their IDs.
Barge did not have his license, but Deluca gave his to the officer who then determined he was a student.
At first, Barge told officers he was born in August and was from Tennessee. He then changed his story and said he had no driver’s license in any state, but said he was a University student. Barge claimed to have lost his University ID and gave officers his 810 number.
When an officer ran the number, it was determined it belonged to another student. At this point, Barge asked to speak with officers privately.
Officers declined his request to speak privately and Barge reportedly told them he was underage, had been drinking downtown and had a valid Georgia ID.
Prior to the arrest, officers found a Kentucky license on Barge.
He was later transported to the Clarke County Jail with Deluca.
Intoxicated student messes up alphabet, says as a University student he should know it
A University student was pulled over on Springdale Street on Saturday morning for multiple traffic violations and later arrested on charges of DUI.
When the officer approached Andrew Pace, 21, he observed a “significant” amount of blood on the steering wheel and his hand.
Pace informed the officer he had cut himself earlier and consumed three drinks, but later changed his alcohol consumption to three or four drinks.
During his performance of field sobriety exercises Pace incorrectly recited the alphabet several times and then told the officer he had too much to drink and as a student at the University, he should know the alphabet.
“I knew I should have stayed at that house,” Pace told the officer.
His breath test results at the University Police Department were 0.197 and 0.196.
He was transported to the Clarke County Jail.
Student found in Brumby Hall
A University student was charged with underage possession of alcohol and possession of a fake ID after she left her dorm room open Saturday morning.
A Housing Security worker and a Resident Assistant found Lindsey La Bate, 19, sleeping on her futon in her Brumby Hall dorm.
La Bate initially gave the Housing Security worker a Florida driver’s license, which showed a different Lindsey to be 23 years old and then gave her another Florida ID with her real name and date of birth.
La Bate informed the officer she had drank one or two drinks earlier that evening.
He observed her voice was slurred and she had a “strong” odor of alcohol on her breath.
She told the officer she didn’t know the person on the first driver’s license because it was a fake ID.
La Bate was arrested and transported to the Clarke County Jail.
“Hostile” student arrested on charges of underage possession of alcohol
A University student tried to use a fake ID to enter Brumby Hall Saturday morning and was considered by housing security to be “hostile” and “intoxicated.”
Katharine Darden, 19, was part of a group of students who needed assistance to enter the dorm and initially gave housing security a Tennessee Driver’s license for someone with a different name.
She later gave security a Tennessee license and University ID with her real name.
She reportedly informed the officer she had consumed alcohol within the past few hours and was underage.
She was arrested on charges of underage possession of alcohol and transported to the Clarke County Jail.
Intoxicated student curses at officer, arrested
A University student was pulled over on Arch Street on Sunday morning after committing numerous traffic violations, including striking the curb.
Jacob Wichman, 23, performed a variety of field sobriety exercises and told the officer “you’re [expletive] up my life,” prior to being arrested on charges of DUI.
He had a small cut and swollen bruise on his forehead, which he attributed to striking his head with a beer bottle.
“It happens. It’s Athens, is why,” he told the officer.
Wichman informed the officer he was picking up a friend from downtown and was on his way home and he had consumed two beers an hour before being pulled over.
Wichman was arrested and transported to the Clarke County Jail.
