Court documents suggest Georgia cornerback Sanders Commings “hit [a woman] in the mouth with his fist” before being arrested on simple battery charges Saturday,

Sanders Commings

according to his arrest warrant surfacing today.

The complainant told police the incident occurred around 1 a.m. in the area of Broad and Jackson streets, according to the police report.

The victim did not sustain any injuries and declined medical attention.

Commings, who started 14 games for the Bulldogs last season, was placed under arrest at his home around 8:30 a.m. after a judge signed a warrant for simple battery charges.

In a Saturday media release, head football coach Mark Richt said he was aware of the arrest.

“I’m aware of the situation and in the process of gathering necessary information.  However, any time a student-athlete is arrested, it is a matter of serious concern,” he said.

Commings, a rising senior from Augusta, is one of 10 starters that are set to return in 2012 to a Bulldogs’ defense that was one of the stingiest in the nation last year. Commings had 55 tackles last season — tied for fourth-most on the team — and led Georgia in pass breakups with 12. He also picked off one pass and tallied one sack.
