Georgia cornerback Sanders Commings, 21, was arrested Saturday morning on charges of simple battery.

Police were alerted to the situation after a woman pulled in front of a patrol car on East Campus Road and attempted to get the officer’s attention, according to a University police report.

She said one of her passengers — Commings’ live-in girlfriend — was involved in a domestic violence incident.

In a subsequent investigation, officers came to believe there was probable cause that the girlfriend was a victim of a simple battery in an incident which occurred around Jackson Street and Broad Street.

The victim did not sustain any visible injuries and declined medical attention.

Later that morning, a judge signed a simple battery arrest warrant for Commings.

An hour later, he was searched, handcuffed and placed under arrest.

Commings was transported to the Clarke County Jail where he was later released to deputies. The victim was notified of the arrest and given a case reference card.

In a Saturday media release, Richt said he was aware of Comming’s arrest.

“I’m aware of the situation and in the process of gathering necessary information.  However, any time a student-athlete is arrested, it is a matter of serious concern,” he said.
