WOMEN’S GOLF NOTEBOOK: Looking to follow up productive fall
The Georgia women’s golf team is back and ready for the spring 2012 season.
The Bulldogs come into the season with a productive fall under their belts.
Georgia earned several top-10 finishes over the fall. Their last tournament was the PAC 12/SEC Challenge in Knoxville, where Georgia managed a No. 7 finish.

“We are learning from what we did in the fall,” senior and former national player of the year Marta Silva Zamora said.
There should be many new aspects to this year’s spring squad.
Georgia welcomes two new freshmen, Collins Bradshaw and Rocio Sanchez Lobato.
“Rocio had a great fall for us. She was our top finisher in two of our four events,” said coach Kelley Hester on her new rising star from Spain. “I think she adjusted quite well for an international student athlete.”
Hester also hinted to possible playing time for Bradshaw this spring.
Sophomore Amelia Hill will also be returning to the team at full health this season.
Hill, a very successful player in her fall 2010 campaign, had her spring ended early in 2011 due to stress fractures.
“She [Hill] saw limited action in the fall,” Hester said on Amelia’s condition. “But she has continued to improve and get better. I would look for her to have some action this spring.”
These new additions to the Bulldogs lineup will be needed if Georgia plans to improve on last year, going against an unforgiving group of SEC teams.
Georgia comes into this season ranked No. 5 in the conference and No. 11 in the country.
“It’s just a matter of all of us getting together and peaking at the right time,” junior Emilie Burger said.
Carrying momentum throughout an entire season has been a major problem for the Bulldogs, but Hester thinks this could be the year they get it right.
“Our goals are to have our kids playing their best golf at the end of the season and I didn’t feel like we peak performed in the fall, so hopefully we’re setting ourselves up to get there by the end of the spring and I feel like if our team does do that…we’re a legit top 5 team,” he said.
With high hopes and anticipation building, the Bulldogs will continue to hone their skills in preparation for their spring debut in February.
