University student arrested for possession of marijuana

A University student was arrested Friday night on charges of possession of less than on ounce of marijuana and pedestrian right of way in crosswalks, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.

A patrolling officer saw Tyler Wright Heyman, 20, fail to yield right of way to “several females attempting to cross Dougherty Street in a marked crosswalk,” according to the report.

The officer turned on his lights and pulled Heyman over in the Whistlebury Apartments parking lot off North Avenue. While talking to Heyman about the reason for the stop, the officer said he “smelled the odor of green marijuana coming from within the vehicle.”

When asked to turn over the drug, Heyman gave the officer a grinder from the center console. A search of Heyman’s blue Tahoe yielded a fake ID and another grinder.

Heyman was placed under arrest and transported to Clarke County Jail.

University freshman arrested after attempting to enter Bourbon Street Bar with a fake ID

Athens-Clarke County police arrested University student Sean Christopher Sapp, 19, Friday night on charges of underage possession of alcohol and use of a fake ID, according to a police report.

An officer watched from across the sidewalk as Sapp approached Bourbon Street Bar, and noted he was “swaying as he stood,” according to the report.  He opened his wallet, turning it away from the doorman, but directly toward the officer. The officer saw the ID sleeve of his wallet held a new, vertical designed Georgia license, but he watched Sapp “dig into the back of his wallet and pull out a Georgia ID that was printed horizontally.”

The officer approached the front of the bar and the doorman handed him an over-21 ID belonging to someone else. The officer then asked Sapp for the other ID in his wallet, and confirmed that he was underage. When asked how much he had had to drink, Sapp said not that much. The officer said he could smell alcohol on Sapp’s breath, and he was swaying as he spoke.

Sapp was placed under arrest and transported to Clarke County Jail.
