A University professor could be telling Americans when women should have their first mammogram or if they need to take aspirin to prevent a heart attack.

Mark Ebell, associate professor of epidemiology, will be part of a national task force that will look at medical evidence and provide people with ways to prevent diseases, according to the Athens Banner-Herald.

“It’s a great honor, and it should be a lot of fun,” he told the Banner.

Ebell’s area of specialty, according to the College of Public Health’s website, includes clinical epidemiology, evidence-based medicine and diagnosis of common medical problems among others.

Ebell told the Banner that members of the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force would not make or sell any of the preventative test they could potentially recommend.
