Professors tell students since course evaluations are anonymous, students should say what they want. But a recent example of a student writing offensive statements about a professor showed that is not always the case. As course evaluations fill time before finals, thousands of University students are asked to evaluate instructor’s performance and teaching methods with the promise of anonymity.

Students violating University policy on illegal downloading said they wish they were educated sooner but think the infractions are resolved.
Since spring, more than 150 students were identified and informed by the University of their illegal downloading activity – some are facing the threat of legal action by the Recording Industry Association of America.

System delays in RIAA lawsuit

The University Office of Legal Affairs acknowledged a problem with the notification of students in an illegal file-sharing lawsuit.
In a letter to The Red & Black, Executive Director for Legal Affairs Stephen Shewmaker wrote the delay in notification was
the result of “inaction” by Rayid Tartir, the information technology associate director for Enterprise Information Technology Services.
Alumnus to speak about experiences in Iraq

Friends lament death of student

A University student known for his swimming skills died Friday.
Zachary Burall Rose swam his way to several high school state championships and a spot on the Georgia Zone team.
In 2004 and 2005 Rose was an All-American in the 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard backstroke.
Student denies beating puppies to death

A University student who worked at the veterinary hospital and is accused of beating seven puppies to death said Tuesday the act isn’t anything she would do. “Whatever happened was unintentional,” said Ashley Rose Council, a junior from Ellenwood, in a telephone interview Tuesday with The Red & Black.

River Road may house Chi Phi frat

The University is meeting with Chi Phi to discuss the fraternity’s move to River Road from Lumpkin Street.
Jim Wimberly, the fraternity’s adviser, confirmed the “confidential discussion” in a phone interview Thursday.
Wimberly deferred information about the discussions to the University, stating it was in the interests of both Chi Phi and the University.
