New Redcoat director Michael Robinson told the band Monday he has no intention of changing tradition.
“I don’t come in with any big agenda,” he said to a crowded band room in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music on East Campus. “It’s not my way or the highway.
Honesty statement proposal suspended

A change to the academic honesty statement on professors’ course syllabi will have to wait, University Council’s Curriculum Committee decided Friday.
The proposal would have added a sentence to each course syllabus stating that questions about how the academic honesty policy relates to the course should be directed to the professor.
Adams backs decision to invite Thomas

Despite some opposition, University President Michael Adams’ message Tuesday to University Council was a clear one: He’s standing by his choice of Associate U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as this semester’s commencement speaker.
Adams said opposition to Thomas is not about sexual harassment and said he defends Thomas’ right to speak.
Univ. to increase faculty salaries

All University faculty soon will receive a salary increase, and the lowest-paid employees will see $1,000 raises, according to an internal University memorandum.
Provost Arnett Mace and Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration Tim Burgess announced the change Friday in a memo to all faculty and staff and forwarded it to The Red & Black.
Parking Services inflates lot costs

Parking pass costs will increase this August for the first time in six years, a University news release stated Friday. PARKING INCREASEPermits will increase $10 per month in each zone. Academic year zone prices will be: Red-zone: $360 Blue-zone $270 Yellow-zone $180 Reserved & Multi-access $540 Additionally, the daily parking schedule will increase by $2 The costs for each parking zone will increase by $10 per month.
Regents vote to renovate Univ. buildings, facilities

Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall, New College and the University President’s House will see renovations in the coming years, the Board of Regents heard this week.
Butts-Mehre, which houses football facilities, is the biggest of the three projects. The plan, which calls for renovation of the existing facility and a 68,500-square-foot expansion, will include a new multi-purpose room for indoor training, Danny Sniff, associate vice president for facilities planning, said in a phone interview Wednesday.

Board of Regents approves slight tuition boost

Incoming freshmen will pay $180 more in tuition each semester than older students pay.
The Board of Regents approved Tuesday an increase in tuition at all University System institutions. Full-time in-state students at each of the state’s research institutions, including the University, now will pay $2,428 per semester, up 8 percent from Fall 2007.
Univ. to close Main Library for home games
