For those who won’t be jet-setting overseas this summer, the University is providing a taste of Spanish culture – no passport required. The Department of Romance Languages in cooperation with UGA Housing is introducing a Spanish language “living-learning community” this summer.

Established in 1985, Leadership UGA is a student leadership program. Sponsored by the Richard R. Russell Foundation, the program teaches students about issues facing the community, the nation and the world.
Bands ‘battle’, raise awareness for poverty

This Saturday the University will hosts its first “Battle Against Poverty,” an eight-hour musical showcase that includes a Battle of the Bands competition to raise awareness of poverty in the Athens area. Students in food processing have introduced their own edible creation to the public at Fruit Glaciers, an Italian ice and ice cream store off Lexington Road.
Prof, family rescue dogs

A University professor and his family are asking for student assistance in improving the lives of four dogs with a history of abuse and abandonment. Last summer, law professor Steve Shi and his family learned of nearly 150 abandoned dogs on a North Georgia property.
School of Music presents homeless benefit concert

Tutorial program calls for students

In a small corner of an old school building, wedged between walls of chipped paint and homemade signs, sits a staff dedicated to enriching the minds of Athens’ youth. Volunteers of the Athens Tutorial Program work in hopes that the youth they help will be able to rise above their often economically strained backgrounds.
