A foul odor reeked from a pile of trash outside Russell Hall Tuesday afternoon, spreading from the Creswell stairs to the doors of Brumby.

No, the freshmen have not been fooled into believing it’s Saturday in Athens.

University Housing sustainability committee hosted a “Dumpster Dive” – a demonstration of how much recyclable material is thrown in the trash – in an effort to raise awareness about recycling.

The Red & Black rode “shotbun” with hotdoggers Laura Moller and David Denny as they drove around campus Tuesday.

The two recent University graduates have been driving an Oscar Mayer Weenie Mobile, which they lovingly call Jill, since June, covering the Southeast one dog at a time.

Graduate School dean vies for provost post at Kansas State

The dean of the University’s graduate school completed her visit as a provost candidate for Kansas State University Tuesday.

Maureen Grasso, who has been The Graduate School dean for seven years, is one of four candidates in Kansas State’s search for its next provost, or head of academic affairs.

Art school hosts first juried show

Quit staring, start caring about the obese

To call my aunt overweight or big-boned is a gross misrepresentation. She is fat. Even as an adult, I still cannot touch my fingertips together when I give her a hug. I’m too scared to ask how many pounds that takes. My family says she always has been that size.

New art building behind on construction goals

A year after the $40 million Lamar Dodd School of Art was dedicated, some construction goals still haven’t been reached.

Jewelry and metals, sculpture, ceramics and interior design, which make up one-third of the school, are still located in satellite areas on Thomas and Cedar streets.

University improves in student retention rate

The University ranks third among SEC schools in retaining students through graduation, falling short only to Vanderbilt and the University of Florida.

“We’re better now than we’ve ever been, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to be even better,” said Jere Morehead, vice president for instruction.

Plans for special collections library shelved for now

The state of the economy has pushed back construction of the University special collections library, initially set to break ground last month.

The University had planned on receiving $26.6 million in state bond money, coupled with $15 million in private investments, to fund the library that will hold the largest collection of Georgia history in the world.
