Bud, bourbon and blues festival rocks Melting Point

Hear that soulful sound in the air? It’s the blues train running through town Saturday heading straight to the Melting Point, where a barbecue grilling party will be host to big name talents. The headliner, New Orleans-based Bonerama, hits stage at 10 p.m.

Animal rights author thanks the monkey

Karen Dawn, an animal lover, takes this opportunity to thank the monkey. Tonight, in partnership with Speak Out for Species, the author and animal rights activist will give a speech about her involvement in animal rights. Her first book, “Thanking the Monkey: Rethinking the Way We Treat Animals,” was published this year and covers all things animal related: from pet ownership and leather to slaughterhouses and hunting season.

The Duhks brings international sound to Melting Point

Bilingual Soul Queen Sarah Dugas brings down the house. Her soulful, passionate voice rises from a whisper to a bellow, and then returns to a smooth tempo over and over again on her band the Duhks latest album, “Fast-Paced World.”

Film teaches tolerance in N.Y.

Filmed entirely at night in New York City, the movie “Nick and Norah” sets the environment of a fast paced city’s underground music scene. The sound track blends perfectly with the cinematic pans from TriBeCa to Brooklyn’s Union Pool music venue, and includes tracks from Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses and Devendra Banhart.
