Despite four student deaths during the past three weeks and an overbooked counseling center, the University has no plans to offer additional counseling.
Creating or joining Facebook groups has been one coping method. The Counseling and Psychiatric Services at the University Health Center serves as another way for students to deal.
Recent rain not enough to aid Athens’ drought

Despite rainfall in Athens, the drought remains. “It has not made a major dent in the drought,” said David Stooksbury, state climatologist and associate professor at the University. Though rain helped, Athens still needs more to make a substantial impact, said Jeff Montgomery, Athens-Clarke County government spokesman.
Design class assignment puts fashion in bookstore

Many students use the University’s bookstore to buy textbooks and school supplies, but a small group of students will be selling their fashions there.
Two classes in the textiles, merchandising and interiors department designed, produced and marketed their attire.
College of Education dean resigns after 8 years

Louis A. Castenell Jr., dean of the College of Education, announced Thursday he will step down after eight years.
Castenell will remain in the college as a faculty member but leaves the dean’s office on Dec. 31.
“Castenell said the college is in a strong position and after 25 years as a dean at UGA and other universities he wants to devote the rest of his career to research, teaching and efforts to encourage youth from undeserved populations to attend college,” according to the College of Education’s news release.
Taste of Diversity brings Asian cuisine to Athens

Taste of Diversity, the eighth-annual cultural show sponsored by Delta Phi Lambda, will be held at the Tate Student Center from 7 to 9 p.m. The show will include Asian food, performances and attire.
Health Center to offer shots as flu season arrives

Flu season is quickly approaching and health centers around the Athens area are preparing for whatever comes their way. “We never know how bad the flu will be, but it’s always pretty prevalent on campus,” said Liz Rachun, health communications coordinator at the University Health Center.
Project Vote Smart rolls into Athens, informs young voters

Voter education rolled onto campus Wednesday in the shape of a red- and blue-striped bus. Project Vote Smart, a nonpartisan and non-profit organization, planned its first tour for the Voter’s Self-Defense System. The tour is dedicated to informing citizens about political candidates, campaigns and issues at all stages of the government, said Jeremy Clemens, legislative research director of Project Vote Smart.

A cup of java around campus now costs a little extra change.
Jittery Joe’s raised prices for most of its beverages Sunday.
This is the first price increase in more than two years, said Jittery Joe’s owner Bob Googe.
He said he hates the idea of raising prices for his customers, but it was necessary to keep up with the rising costs elsewhere.
