Smoked out, baked, blazed or toasted – whatever you call getting high, millions are doing it today. In cannabis culture, April 20 is a holiday for advocates to smoke and campaign for legalizing marijuana.
But for Wojciech Kaczkowski, president of the University’s chapter of the National Organization for the Reform for Marijuana Laws, today also is a point of reflection in a semester-long fight to free expression on campus.

Vinegar, roach traps and sprays – for Raine Miller and his Reed Hall roommates, it seemed they had tried everything to get rid of the trails of ants that flow through their first floor suite.
Miller and his roommates once tried dousing vinegar along the perimeter of their common room to “direct them out the door,” but the ants came marching, one by one, back into the suite.

A district court ordered the University to clear a journalism professor’s name of sexual harassment charges.
In documents filed Tuesday, the court adopted a recommendation to “grant [John Soloski's] request … for rescinding [the University's] findings and expunging from [the University's] records any indication that [Soloski] violated the University’s sexual harassment policy.
Injuries, damage galore as weather wreaks havoc

Though the University was scheduled to run under normal operating hours Tuesday, for some it was hardly business as usual as many braved icy conditions and downed trees to get to campus.
Injuries, delayed buses and canceled classes persisted as some road conditions around town and spots around campus remained icy.

Though iced roads, tree damage and power outages are still concerns around campus after Athens was slammed by six inches of snow Sunday, the University will be open Tuesday, an administrator said.
The University will operate under normal operating hours, said Tom Jackson, vice president of Public Affairs, in a phone interview with The Red & Black Monday.

As snowstorms pummeled much of the Southeast this weekend, many University students woke up today to discover the elusive precipitation had blanketed campus and the rest of town. “It’s about time we got snow,” said Ben Wineski, a sophomore from Decatur. “We haven’t had snow like this in years.
Rats latest blight to Benson Building

All it took was one rodent in a ramshackle academic building to displace an entire department, adding to the piling list of recent complaints to the Benson Building.
After reports of a rat infestation were investigated last week, students’ classes were relocated to different academic buildings on campus, said Garnett Stokes, dean of Franklin College of Arts & Sciences, in a phone interview Tuesday.

The state’s largest newspaper is now involved in a University journalism professor’s fight to clear his name of harassment charges. A district court ordered a deposition for Kelly Simmons, a former Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter and current University employee, to reveal the identities of sources she used in a June 2005 story about the Office of Legal Affairs’ investigation in claims against John Soloski, a Grady College professor and former dean.
DUI dropped for UGA math department head (w/court documents)

Athens-Clarke County State Court dropped a driving under the influence of alcohol charge against the head of the University math department in a court agreement last week. On Friday, the court changed the charge to reckless driving, and Joseph Fu pled no contest.
