The Chi Phi fraternity house suffered damages after someone set fire to a haystack outside Saturday morning, according to University Police.

The officer arrived at the house on Lumpkin Street at 2:20 a.m. and saw “hay smoldering on the ground next to the emergency exit door,” police reported.

A University student said she was wrongly identified following charges of two felony counts of shoplifting.

Leslie Marie Clausen, a junior from Dallas, Tex., told The Red & Black the charges were filed against the wrong person and she feels like her “identity was stolen.

Joseph Fu, head of the University’s mathematics department, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Friday. But, Fu’s breath sample of .057 grams was less than the legal limit of .08 grams for people over 21.

Chapel bell ready to ring in new school year

The University Chapel bell is ready to be rung in celebration of the first football win of the 2008 season.

The bell was re-installed Friday, in time for Bulldogs’ first home game against Georgia Southern Aug. 30.

Last October, the bell’s yoke broke after fans celebrated a victory against Florida by yanking on the rope for hours.

Athens-Clarke County police are investigating a report that a female student from Georgia College & State University was possibly raped while attending a University fraternity party last weekend.

The GCSU woman attended a party at the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house at Cloverhurst Court the night of April 19.

Students leave legacies inside Tate II

Students left their mark on the University Tuesday by signing a 22-foot steel support beam that will be a part of Tate II.

Stephen Dorner, a sophomore from Alpharetta and chair of the Tate II Advisory Board, said the beam will be placed in the building and covered with drywall.
