George Zinkhan’s children rode bikes through their Huntington Park neighborhood and played soccer in their yard.

With a basketball hoop in the driveway, a soccer goal in the front yard and a playhouse out back, Zinkhan’s 10-year-old daughter, Beth, and 8-year-old son, Jim, were active.

Justin Gaines wanted to look good for the ladies.

The Gainesville State freshman was home on a Thursday night and sought assurance from his stepfather his shirt looked OK.

A night of fun with friends was the plan, but as often happens, the plan changed.

Gaines and the group headed to Wild Bill’s, a dance club in Duluth.

A club that sold a T-shirt with the image of Hairy Dawg smoking marijuana and sitting by the Arch is in trouble because of the University’s logo policy.

A member of the Georgia chapter of the National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws drew the picture of the University mascot during the fall 2008 semester.

In January, The Red & Black reported College of Education Professor William Bender was allowed to resign after being found guilty of the University’s harassment policy.

They loom on campuses across the country, blue lights offering a “comfort situation” for students and parents alike. The University of Virginia has more than 400. Florida State has 400 in a trail. The University of Alabama has almost 100. The University of Georgia – zero.

UGA football, men’s basketball in SEC cellar for graduation rates (w/documents)

The University’s football and men’s basketball teams were trounced for the second straight year in graduation rates, as the teams ranked last in the Southeastern Conference for players who entered as freshmen between 1998-2001.

The men’s basketball team graduated 23 percent of athletes from this group, and the football team graduated 48 percent, according to the NCAA’s Graduation Success Rate Report, released Tuesday.

Upset sophomores and juniors sounded off on Facebook, in letters and via telephone calls Sunday after discovering they were awarded a split football season ticket package.

“I’m frustrated with the Athletic Association,” Will Brown, a sophomore from Roswell, said.
