Distinctive funk music rising from the ’70s, the possibility of flashy drag costumes and an iconic pop artist are all coming together this weekend.
Expect fun, but be aware of something big peeking out from beneath the surface.
The third annual AIDS benefit, which raises money for AIDS Athens and is promoted by the MAC AIDS Fund, will be a two day event held for the first time this year at Cine.

Ah, a play. A romping, theatrical, fun-filled time when actors delight their audiences with dramatic dialogue and punchy tunes. Although this is true of many stage shows, Tom Stoppard doesn’t allow audiences of his 1993 play, “Arcadia,” to merely sit back and relax.

To be a good writer, sometimes the only solution is murder. Write every word down, and then strike out the parts that dazzle by themselves, but unbalance the work as a whole. After reading the first block of tiny text in 2003 University alumnus Darrell Kinsey’s first novella “Honeywood,” I wondered if any one had ever told him this well-known writing advice.

Spooky and smiling carved pumpkins decorate many doorsteps during October, but they weren’t the first vegetable in history to be carved and put on display.

Instead, the turnip was the original jack-o-lantern veggie of choice, said Peter Loose, a local artist.

Rugby inspires Irish pub

When Dustin Karr, a University alumnus, decided to quit his sports marketing job and open his own business, the first thing he did was sleep.

“I did nothing for a month in Athens but party and sleep all day,” he said. Karr recently opened the Landsdowne Irish Pub on the corner of College Avenue and East Washington Street.
