Gym Dog seniors forced off mats

When the Gym Dogs boarded the bus Monday outside East Village Commons, the mood was light and happy – ready for the trip to Salt Lake City. The suitcases were placed in the storage area of the chartered bus, while friends and boyfriends were there to say goodbye for the week.

Gymnast Ericksen to miss nationals

The No. 2 Gym Dogs were dealt another heavy blow in their National Championship run late during Thursday’s practice when senior all-around competitor Kelsey Ericksen tore her left ACL.

The injury will take Ericksen out of the NCAA Championships, which was to be her last gymnastics meet.

The Gym Dogs will have one last chance to avenge their losses to Florida and UCLA. However, Georgia will have to defend its back-to-back natioal titles without one of its key leaders.

During Saturday night’s NCAA regional meet, senior Ashley Kupets injured her Achilles tendon while warming up on the floor exercise.

Denver venue to see Gym Dogs on ice

The No. 2 Gym Dogs have two more meets to attempt to defend their National Championship, and there is a “little fire underneath” the team, according to Katie Heenan, to perform well and beat Florida.

That little fire will be necessary for the team tomorrow night when they enter Magness Arena in Denver for the NCAA Regionals.

Tolnay lives up to TNT nickname with dynamite year

With the initials TNT, Tiffany Nicole Tolnay must be explosive to fit the name her parents gave her.

Tolnay lives up to the expectations of being dynamite on the mats, though outside of the gym, she is a little bit calmer and less deadly.

“I have a little explosiveness in me,” Tolnay, who is described as “structured” by head coach Suzanne Yoculan, said about her skills.

Transfer lineman adapts to Bulldogs

With G-Day on Saturday, Georgia football fans know two things for certain – the Bulldogs will win … and the Bulldogs will lose.

On G-Day, it’s brother versus brother, the Red team versus the Black team, inside Sanford Stadium.

“Guys react different (in the stadium),” said Head Coach Mark Richt, adding this was as close as the team comes to a real game situation.

Uga VI’s owner trumps rumors of retirement

Uga fanatics can breathe a little bit easier now: the University’s beloved mascot will not be retiring any time soon. After reports surfaced last week that Uga VI would be ending his career as the University mascot, the Bulldog nation was abuzz in speculation.

Gym Dogs earn second in SEC, prep for nationals

The SEC gymnastics championship ended just as rankings would have predicted. At the conclusion of Saturday’s championship meet, the top four teams stood in the exact order they had entered as Georgia lost its reign over the SEC for the first time in four years.

Katie Heenan and Courtney Kupets lit up AllTel Arena in Little Rock, Ark., this past weekend with their own personal performances, even though the

Gym Dogs did not win their fourth straight SEC championship.

The duo competed in the all-around and tied for all-around champions for the 2007 season.
