Former Georgia cornerback Paul Oliver was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the NFL supplemental draft Thursday.

Oliver was chosen 28th in the fourth round.

Former student considered a threat bonded out of jail

A University graduate student considered a threat to himself or others based on the statements of a faculty member and who later confronted University police with a handgun, has bonded from jail. Brandon Ginyard, 27, was granted $10,000 bond Wednesday by a Clarke County Superior Court judge on the condition he leave the state and live at his father’s home outside Los Angeles, get mental health counseling and wear an ankle monitor.

Son of Georgia women’s basketball coach in critical condition

The son of Georgia women’s basketball coach Andy Landers is in critcal but stable condition following a car accident on Interstate 20 Sunday that killed an assistant coach at North Oconee High School and injured two other students.

Drew Landers, a rising senior at North Oconee High School, was airlifted to Atlanta’s Grady Hospital.

University police arrest theft suspect

Based on a tip from a University employee, University police arrested Letorris McDuffie, 33, Wednesday, on several charges including three misdemeanor counts of battery and possessing burglary tools and a weapon on school property – both felonies, according to Athens-Clarke County Jail reports.

Georgia names new women’s golf coach

The University didn’t waste any time trying to put a bad situation behind it.

Kelley Hester, a standout golfer for Georgia in the 1990s and head coach at Arkansas, was named Georgia’s head women’s golf coach Thursday. Hester replaces Todd McCorkle, who resigned his position in early May following allegations of sexual harrassment by his players.

Tuition hike for incoming freshmen

Men’s, women’s tennis teams learn NCAA opponents

The top-ranked and undefeated Georgia men’s tennis team (26-0) will begin its journey for its fifth national title when it hosts Fairleigh Dickinson in the first round of the NCAA Tournament May 11 or 12 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The winner will face Auburn or Georgia State in the second round, also a the Magill Center, with the winner staying in Athens for the Sweet Sixteen.

Men’s tennis team places four in singles championship tourney

Four members of the Georgia men’s tennis team received bids to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex following the team championships, which begin May 17.

Three of the four Bulldogs are seeded in the top 16. Leading the list is senior John Isner, the championship’s top seed.

Women’s golf coach resigns abruptly

Georgia women’s golf coach Todd McCorkle resigned Monday, three days before he was to take his third-ranked team to the Central Regional of the NCAA Championships. McCorkle cited personal reasons for leaving, according to Athletics Director Damon Evans. McCorkle will remain on the Athletic Association staff in another capacity.
