Jessica Davis smiles and says hello, but she can’t shake hands right now. She is using one rubber-gloved hand to steady herself while her other arm is shoved shoulder deep inside the rear end of a cow. “I just started to ultrasound … I’m just learning,” she says, moving the arm holding the ultrasound wand around inside the cow as she intently watches a grainy black and white image on the monitor.

Francesca Valente’s personnel file is “bursting with comments,” said one Ramsey center Official – all of them positive.

As an aquatics senior manager at the Ramsey Center, Valente works about 20 hours a week at the pool, contributing whenever and wherever she can – lifeguarding, managing the pool and teaching swim classes.

Essay reflects student’s errors

If there is one thing Gene Whitner Milner III says he’s learned from his latest alcohol offense, it’s that “marked” men shouldn’t throw parties.

In an essay ordered by a University Judiciary Panel as punishment for disorderly conduct, Milner questions his actions toward the police during a party at his 555 Riverhill Dr.

He’s back.

Within the past year, University student Gene Whitner Milner III has been charged with several alcohol and drug-related offenses, been barred from the county and involved in an investigation into the death of another student.

His latest arrest, in December, for disorderly conduct and providing alcohol to minors, led to suspension from classes.

Tate II approaching final design stage

Final schematics for Tate II are due to the Board of Regents in less than a month and University architects said those working on the project are tweaking the plans to fit the budget.

Student affairs officials, University architects and members of the Real Estate Foundation met with Tate II architects Cooper Carry Tuesday to go over preliminary schematics for Tate II – the latest in a series that fills several ring binders.

UHC expanding, Tate II shrinks

While one university building is expanding, another construction project continues to shrink.

University Council student affairs committee members discussed several construction projects in a meeting Wednesday, including the expansion of the University Health Center and the reduction of the Tate Student Center expansion project.

Vigilante sends crime ‘report cards’ home

John and Julie Adams received the letter on Feb. 5.

A printed copy of the jail booking report from the Clarke County Sheriff’s Web site with the name Christina Anne Adams and her charges – lights required, underage possession of alcohol and a DUI – circled was mailed to their home in Hull.

A hotbed of hatred?

Thirty-two hate crime incidents were reported to University of Georgia police in the past six years, according to FBI statistics. Step outside the iron fence and the number of hate crimes reported by Athens-Clarke County police drops to zero. The University of Florida has reported eight hate crimes, as has the University of Kentucky.

Lumpkin Street negotiations left in Adams’ hands

Five Lumpkin Street fraternities could soon expect a new deal, but not a major change in negotiations with the University for their prime North Campus real estate. In their Tuesday meeting the Board of Regents granted University President Michael Adams the authority to offer settlements of unspecified amounts to five Lumpkin Street fraternities – Chi Phi, Kappa Alpha, Phi Delta Theta, Pi Kappa Alpha and Tau Epsilon Phi.
