It was well worth the wait. Among all the great games Georgia sports’ teams have played since 2000 — my first year as a Bulldog — the football team’s 31-24 win over rival Florida last October ranks as the icing on my proverbial sports cake. The Bulldog football team won 50 football games since the [...]

Darrius Swain was arrested Saturday night and charged with driving with a suspended license and following too closely, according to Clarke-County jail logs. Swain, a defensive lineman from Decatur, was booked at 8 p.m. He was released at 10:11 p.m. after posting $2,000 bond for the two charges — $1,500 for the suspended license charge [...]

In the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., the ghosts of Ted Williams and Babe Ruth haunt the halls of baseball heaven. And Mark McGwire’s ghost will never join them. After he appeared before Congress regarding whether he used steroids, McGwire focused on the future. The future? Baseball revolves around records: Ricky [...]

Steroids stealing the magic

The grass has been cut, the wood bats have been brought out of storage and the smell of baseball is resonating in Florida and Arizona. Only problem is baseball fans, like myself, are not hearing anything about this. All the talk and focus by my media brethren has, thus far, revolved around Barry Bonds, Jason [...]

Tenacious D. Pineview. The Breakfast Club. Chicken N’ Dumplins. Creativity is never at a loss on this campus. However, what’s up with these seemingly mismatched phrases? They are four of the many teams duking it out for supremacy in the world of Intramural basketball. However, there’s much more going on than just the intense battles [...]

Poor shooting dooms Bulldogs

The first half of the game has not been kind to the Georgia men’s basketball team during the its past two losses. In Georgia’s 76-55 loss to Kentucky on Saturday, the Bulldogs hit just eight of the team’s 22 shots in the first half — just under 37 percent from the field. Combine that with [...]

Lady dogs may rival men’s team

Many of Georgia’s athletic teams have intrasquad games before their regular season starts. The Red versus the Black in football’s famous G-Day game. The Dogs versus the Pups in baseball. However, I think there is one sport where there needs to be a different kind of intrasquad game: men’s basketball against women’s basketball. You may [...]

VanGorder, who has been a part of head coach Mark Richt’s staff since Richt joined the Bulldogs in 2001, will be taking over the position of linebackers coach for the NFL’s [...]

Many Auburn fans are still wondering why they are not planning a New Year’s Day trip to the sandy beaches of Miami. After finishing the season 12-0, Auburn was left out of the mix, finishing behind No. 1 USC and No. 2 Oklahoma, both also undefeated this season. “There’s no perfect way to do this,” [...]
