The term “alumni” makes many students assume the UGA Alumni Association is exclusively for students who have graduated, but this assumption could prevent students from taking advantage of all that the organization has to offer. Founded in tradition, the UGA Alumni Association formed in 1834, the fourth alumni society in the U.

While there’s certainly no shame in that, the members of Athens-based classic rockers Lullwater believe that’s stopping short of what music can do for people. “We do want people to have fun, we do want people to be entertained, but in the same sense, we want fans to connect to the music, and have it mean something to them,” said frontman John Strickland.

Despite the disturbing implications of its name, local cover band ZZ Topless does not plan to take the stage half-naked. “There’s not any kind of ulterior nudity motives behind it,” said Dave Weiglein, front man of the local cover group. “Maybe down the road we can have some girls in cages or something like that.

Crass cover songs to grace 40 Watt stage

Crass cover songs aren’t always what they seem. Anti-folk singer/songwriter Jeffrey Lewis, who released his latest album, “12 Crass Songs,” last October, plays tonight at the 40 Watt Club. The literal-minded album is comprised of covers of the English anarchist punk band Crass, adapted to Lewis’ acoustic style.

University graduates reunite for big-screen project

Two directors, one producer and a homicidal maniac. That’s what connects the University with Atlanta-based film, “The Signal.”

University alumni David Bruckner and Jacob Gentry wrote and directed the film with Dan Bush, a third writer and director.

Gentry and Alex Motlagh, also a graduate of the University, produced the film via POPfilms, the company the two founded.
