Fake taxi driver accused of robbing UGA student

Athens-Clarke County police said the man who robbed a University student on Oct. 16 was not a legitimate taxi driver.

Tracy Faust, 41, was arrested and charged with armed robbery and battery for allegedly robbing Brian Behr, a 22-year-old UGA student, after he picked up him up from downtown.

Parking deck contractor in Atlanta collapse also working on UGA decks

The construction company serving as the general contractor for the parking deck that collapsed in Atlanta Monday is the same contractor building two parking decks at the University slated to be ready in the fall semester. Hardin Construction Company is building the deck under construction at the intramural fields and a deck near the Performing Arts Center.

Spec Towns getting a makeover

The Spec Tows Track is getting a makeover. The home of the Bulldog track and field team, as well as exercise site for joggers around town, will be closed for six months as the University will replace the track for the first time since 1986. The $3 million makeover is expected to last six months.

Athletic Association OKs $40 million in Butts-Mehre improvements (w/renderings)

The Georgia Athletics Association board approved $40 million to add 53,000 square feet of space to the Butts-Mehre athletics building.

A new weight room, coaches offices, new training facilities and a large multi-purpose area will be added under the plan approved Thursday in Greensboro.

Men’s basketball adds proven scorer

The Georgia men’s basketball team is getting a proven scorer, but he won’t be eligible until 2010. Gerald Robinson Jr., a point guard out of Tennessee State, will transfer to Georgia for his final two years of eligibility. Robinson, a first-team all-Ohio Valley Conference performer last season, averaged 17.

Regents give UGA authority to furlough employees

University President Michael Adams was given the authority to furlough any and all employees, including faculty, should the need arise, by the Board of Regents during its meeting in Atlanta Tuesday.

“This gives our presidents the flexibility to make furlough decisions for their respective institutions, if the state revenue situation continues to worsen,” said Chancellor Erroll B.

Police spent the weekend monitoring Atlanta’s airport to see if University professor George Zinkhan would make good on his ticket to Amsterdam, but officials confirmed Monday Zinkhan’s passport was found in the 2005 Jeep Liberty discovered in a Athens-Clarke County ravine Friday.
