When the University’s Redcoat Band riles up football fans with the Bulldog fight song, what’s good for morale may not be good for the ears.

“I think you would probably be shocked at how loud the UGA stadium is at a football game – it’s probably over a 110 decibels,” said Robin Hardin, audiologist for Athens-Oconee Audiology.

Gators favor fidelity – at least according to findings by University researchers.

After examining hundreds of alligator mothers and their nests, University researchers published a 10-year study in the journal of Molecular Ecology, which concludes 70 percent of female alligators exhibited long-term fidelity in their mating rituals with their male companions.

Researcher tests drug to quell addiction

Researchers in the University’s College of Veterinary Medicine are using a drug commonly associated with treatment for schizophrenia to help drug addicts during the withdrawal process.

The researchers tested D-Serine, an amino acid, for its effectiveness in learning capabilities for cocaine addicts.

Take a look around you. It is apparent that our generation is obsessed with iPods and other audio devices. In fact, it seems as though ear buds have become the “must have” accessory for any person who wants to be included in the fad. I often wonder if people with headphones jammed into their ears are actually listening to any type of audio at all, or if they merely have them in their ears out of habit.

As college students realize the dismal job opportunities that await after graduation during the recession, they are diversifying their studies in hopes to prepare themselves for future job opportunities.

A recent New York Times article reported that business is the most popular undergraduate major, with twice as many bachelor’s degrees awarded than in any other field of study.
